Our customer is leading provider of open and fully interoperable IP, Optical & Software solutions to service providers around the world

In order to scale its R&D organisation to better adress large service providers, and harmonize R&D development within different product lines, our customer is looking for a new Senior Director, Core R&D

Vos responsabilités

The Senior Director, Core R&D, reports to the Group CTO and VP R&D and leads teams in charge of:
– Building, enhancing and maintaining the software development infrastructure
– Running advanced studies and architecture work, related to new software languages, practices, infrastructure, development tools, etc
– Ensuring consistent architecture across all product portfolio, especially from a software perspective by driving software modularity and re-usability
– Monitoring latest technologies and trends relevant to our customer Product portfolio and conducting research activities to fuel our future development activities
– Defining Security practices, rules and ensuring world-class security level of our solutions

He/she shall be in charge of the following activities:
• Leads an international team of ca. 20 staff members, distributed in 3 different countries (France, Belgium, India) and 5 different sites
• Hires, motivates, trains, develops and coaches assigned personnel in accordance with HR Group policies and corporate strategic objectives
• Fosters innovation and stays up-to-date with latest technology trends and opportunities especially in optical transport, IP switching and routing, voice, virtualization, SD-WAN/SASE and edge computing
• Evolves our software development infrastructure towards a DevSecOps model, by enhancing our customer own software platform as well as ensuring support of any public cloud infrastructure
• Drives the Architecture Committee by ensuring relevant architecture studies are conducted either inside his organization or in other R&D departments, aiming at consistent software architectures across product portfolio while leveraging latest technologies to ensure our solutions deliver outstanding value
• Is accountable for ensuring reuse of software components between R&D departments and for fostering sharing of best practices
• Supports the teams in evolving from Continuous Integration to Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
• Ensures that his organization provides efficient, state-of-the-art and comprehensive tools across R&D departments and offers a world-class software development framework (software factory)
• Represents our Customer in front of research institutes, standardization groups and in the scope of collaborative funded projects
• Seeks funding for R&D activities and ensures we deliver funded projects in line with committed timelines
• Promotes security by design practices and ensures our customer software complies with stringent security standards
• Supports the move to a full agile R&D organization
• Monitors Key Performance Indicators related to his/her activity and defines action plans to improve
• Defines and monitors budget execution
• Adopts an open and fair management style in combination with an intense two-way communication with all employees in order to obtain a motivated and well-informed workforce
• Maintains good relationships with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Pre-Sales, Manufacturing, Customer Support and other R&D departments in order to develop our customer technology leadership and improve our global roadmap

Votre profil

• PhD in Telecommunications or Computer Science
• Very strong background in software infrastructure and software development
• Previous experience in working in a DevSecOps organization
• Strong background in Cloud and Virtualization
• Good technical background in Optical Transport, IP and networking protocols
• Strong team management experience of R&D, Engineering or IT departments
• Previous experience in working in international environments
• Previous experience in working in agile organizations
• Strong strategic and customer focus with a clear understanding of our customer markets and ability to interact with customers or partners at senior level
• At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial position
• Fluent in English and French
